Our
Georgia Oglethorpe Annual
Conference & Awards Banquet is
our premier event to mark the completion of each year’s assessment cycle and
to officially kick off the cycle for next year. The tradition began in 1997 and
continues today.
Organizations
hard at work to achieve milestones in their never-ending pursuit of performance
excellence may receive one of the following recognition options.
Georgia
Oglethorpe Award
Georgia Oglethorpe Award (Step 3) uses the robust version of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Criteria for Performance Excellence. Using these Criteria, organizational leaders receive actionable feedback on their strengths and opportunities for improvement. This is achieved through both self- and third-party assessment provided by the Georgia Oglethorpe Board of Examiners. Additionally, organizations are judged by the Georgia Oglethorpe Panel of Judges to determine potential recipients of the Georgia Oglethorpe Award – Georgia’s highest recognition for organizational performance excellence.
Georgia Progress Award
Georgia Progress Award (Step 2) uses a condensed version of the Criteria for Performance Excellence. This condensed version is used to assess and judge organizations for this step in our three-step assessment and recognition process. The process of using both self- and third-party assessment, along with judging, is the same as for the Georgia Oglethorpe Award but the competition is for the Georgia Progress Award. In competing for either award, the Criteria are an organization’s competition – not other organizations.
Georgia
Focus Recognition Certificate
Georgia
Focus Recognition (Step 1) is
based on the Criteria for Performance Excellence and provides
organizational leaders an independent, self-contained, self-assessment tool. It
differs from the other two significantly. First, successful completion of the
process leads to public recognition and a certificate. It is not a competition
against the Criteria. Second, it offers an easy way to learn and use the
Criteria and the self-assessment system. This makes self-assessment using the
other two approaches, above, more effective and efficient. Third, if used as
intended, Georgia Focus Recognition offers knowledge of how a leadership
and management system should be viewed to optimize limited resources. Viewing
their organization as an inter-dependent system, organizational leaders identify
strengths and opportunities for improvement. Although none of the steps are a
prerequisite for the other, completing this step is educational and a great way
to begin. Organizations that complete this process may receive the Georgia
Focus Recognition Certificate.
